Reflection

This video involves a Year 7, mixed progress class. The class is following a maths course on Reflections using ICT.

Using a wide range of ICT, including interactive whiteboard, and other tools such as presentation software and the internet, the teacher is able to enhance and engage the students learning in teaching reflections.

The teacher uses an application called "the Geometry Sketch pad" which teaches students about reflections and how to construct graphs and move shapes. This software encourages students to demonstrate examples on the whiteboard and provide feedback.

Any of the information which is used by the teacher and downloaded from the internet is made available to be shared by teachers and students in a centrally prepared folder and through the intranet.

The intranet is allowing the teacher and students to include useful links to resources and any work produced can adapted and used by teachers.

Students can also save their work in a central area, where teachers can then provide regular feedback and help. This feedback allows the students to edit, amend and improve their standards of work.

This also allows students to catch up with any lessons that they may have missed through absence.

Objectives

The main objectives for the lesson are to:

  • understand the language associated with Reflections, Translations and Rotations
  • recognise and visualise transformation of symmetry of a 2d shape
  • explain the transformation and symmetry using ICT
  • recognise and visualise reflection in a given mirror line and line symmetry.
