Science KS3 Y7 A year 7 top tier class using data loggers to measure cooling curves.
Using a wide range of ICT, including data projectors, data loggers, presentation software, word processors, DVDs, CDs and videos, the teacher is able to stimulate, motivate and enhance the students' learning and develop their skills in science.
The class is split into two halves, with one half using data loggers and the other using datasheets. The benefits of data logging are highlighted in this way.
ICT is allowing the students to capture the data using data loggers and then to analyse, record and save the data to a central area. The teacher can show at what rate a cup was cooling by showing the results on a data projector using data analysis and presentation software.
Within the class the teacher uses a software programme, presentation software and a data projector to show a simulation of an electric motor. The software being used allows the animation to be slowed down to show how each part works.
Any resources that are gathered such as videos or images are saved onto a centrally shared folder and can be accessed by teachers and students.
Students can also save their work to the central area, where teachers can then provide regular feedback and help.
Objectives
- know how to set up the data logging software and use it to make measurements
- develop ICT skills using data loggers
- develop science investigation and planning skills
- collect and evaluate data using ICT.
