Curriculum Online Tagging Tool

Only approved Content Providers can place product records on our site. More information on becoming a Content Provider can be found here.
The product record will link to your own site and give teachers further information about the use and benefits of the product.

To create a product record it is necessary to understand what we mean by "tagging" .

What is Tagging?

The Curriculum Online search engine needs information about each of your products (for example details of Curriculum use and product format). This information, otherwise known as 'metadata', is stored within the database and searched each time a teacher looks for resources. The process of creating this metadata is known as tagging.

Content Providers therefore need to accurately tag their products (or appoint a third party to do so on their behalf), to make sure that teachers are able to find what they are looking for.

You can begin the tagging process as soon as you receive your supplier user name and password. However it is recommended to wait until one of your products has gone through the registration process and has been confirmed as
eligible.

The Tagging Tool has been developed to generate each product record (in accordance with the international standard for metadata). It is designed to make the process of creating metadata and outputting each of your product records as easy and intuitive as possible. Content Providers with existing databases of products are also able to develop their own tagging solutions, instead of using the tagging tool.

Metadata

The Tagging Tool can be used to publish metadata related to product records in XML format. If you are new to the principle of metadata in general, you will find background information in the metadata guide page.

Tagging Tool Specfication

Software - Java 2 Runtime Environment v. 1.4.2 is supported on Microsoft Windows 98 (1st and 2nd editions), Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 6a), Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 1), Windows 2000 Professional (with Service Pack 3), and Windows Server 2003 (Web, Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter Editions in 32-bit).

Hardware - Intel and 100% compatible processors are supported. A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 32 megabytes of physical RAM is required to run graphically based applications. At least 48 megabytes of RAM is recommended for applets running within a browser using the Java Plug-in. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping which has a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance.

Downloading the Tagging Tool

The latest version (3.1.2) of the Tagging Tool is quicker and easier to use, the help messages have also been improved, based on your feedback

Choose the correct version for your operating system. For Windows, Linux and Solaris, you can also choose to download the Tool with Java - the Tool requires Java to run, so if you are not certain that you have Java installed, choose the version that comes with it. Mac OSX users will have Java installed by default.

Note:

The Tagging Tool requires Java 1.4.2 to be installed on the same machine as the Tagging Tool. On the download page, you can choose whether or not to download and install Java as part of the Tagging Tool installation process.
